Triple Stroke Roll
The Triple Stroke Roll consists of consecutive triplets each one made with a single hand. In other words, you make three consecutive strokes with each drumstick and then alternate hands.
Five Stroke Roll
The Five Stroke Roll consist of four strokes (two diddles) followed by an accented eight note (played louder), for a total of five notes. It is played by alternating each hand after every two notes. The key when approaching this rudiment is the accent, which gives dynamics to the exercise.
Six Stroke Roll
The Six Stroke Roll starts with an accented note followed by two diddles (or four notes alternated every two notes) and finishes with another accented stroke. The first and second accent should be opposite in the hands. In other words, if you start the rudiment with the right hand (R), it should end with the left (L)
Seven Stroke Roll
The Seven Stroke Roll consists of three diddles (or six notes alternating hands every two strokes) and ends with an accent note, for a total of Seven Strokes.
Nine Stroke Roll
The Nine Stroke Roll starts with four diddles, or eight strokes alternating hands every two notes, and finishes with an accent note, for a total of nine strokes.
